Mohawk-Hudson (Erie Canal) Bike Trail – Saturday – August 3, 2013

The main reason we decided to stay at Arrowhead Marina and RV Park was because we could access the Mohawk-Hudson Bike Trail by a short bike ride from the campground!! This turned out to be a great choice.  The campground is great and the setting is really lovely:o))

The Mohawk-Hudson Bike Trail is part of the NYS Canalway Trail System, a network of more than 260 miles of multi-use recreational trails across upstate New York linking the Hudson River with Lake Champlain, Lake Ontario, the Finger Lakes, the Niagara River and Lake Erie!!

From the campground, we rode our bikes on nice country roads to the Trail Access Area.  It couldn’t have been more than a couple miles:o)  Once on the trail, we headed Northwest.  After a short ride, we came to a dead end;o((  Apparently there is a way around this dead end, but we decided to just turn around and ride Southeast towards Schenectady.  At Schenectady, the trail continues on city streets.  We prefer not to ride on city streets, so we turned around and headed back to the campground.

  1. Wonderful pictures Nancy. Love the one of the marina and campground from the bridge. Looks like a lovely place. Is the girl on roller blades with hiking poles? LOL Sobering to read the ghost bike memorial sign and then see the accident. I've never seen an accident on a bike trail.

    1. Both drivers and cyclists need to slow down and yield the right of way and save a life!! I think this was a medical emergency and not an accident on the trail today.

  2. Beautiful bike path. I don't like riding on the street either.

  3. What a gorgeous ride following the water. Interesting about the ghost bike history. I now have 20 miles on my must do list but probably not this week :)

  4. The ghost bike is a sad reminder of why we don't like to ride on city streets either.

  6. I had to peak and see what you've been up to. I'm only allowed limited reading right now and I was suffering from a shortage of your adventures... ;c)
