So we came full circle,
back to the South Carolina Beach at Ocean Lakes Campground in Myrtle Beach.
Where we are now hanging out with our children and grandchildren.
Baby, our Winnebago Journey, and us traveled a total of 3268 miles in 2.5 months!!
During our trip we hiked 135+ miles and biked 240+ miles.
Why are these miles important???
Because in less than 2 hours after arriving at Ocean Lakes,
I had biked less than 100 ft. with our Grand-daughters
and
only managed to ride through one puddle.
Then as we went around the building on the left...
OOPS...
my bike slipped and I went down...
summer trip is over:o((
Yep...I broke both bones in my left wrist and was off to the emergency room!!
Fortunately, the holiday weekend was over so it wasn't crowded.
I was taken right away. It was quickly determined that I had a compound fracture
which would need some plates and screws to repair.
Yes, this is the same arm I just had the Titanium Rod removed about 2 years ago;o)
They made me comfortable over night and about noon on Sept 4, I was in pre-op.
A few hours later, I was back and getting ready to head home!!
So we are back at the campground, with all the family.
My pain is minimal and we are having a great time.
I guess if this had to happen...
better now then in the beginning of our trip!!
My intention was to get the blog updated during the next couple months while we hang out here in the Myrtle Beach area. Not sure how much of that will happen as I am typing with one hand;o)) They said I only have to have this splint on for two weeks and then a removable splint that will provide protection will be put on. That way I can start some physical therapy. So hopefully, I will be back in action real soon!!
Just know...
we had an amazing summer!!!
Oh no! You have caught "dreamer's disease"...so much has happened to so many dreamers this year. Glad to see you smiling and get better soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys and hope life is treating you well...it was time for someone else to get the dreamer's disease. You two and H&L had it long enough!!
DeleteOh no Nancy! Sorry to hear about your crash! Glad to see you're on the mend. I guess we need to get some training wheels back on your bike. ;c)
ReplyDeleteYou sure had a great summer trip, much better traveling than your first FT attempt. You actually got a chance to slow down and smell the roses.
Enjoy you time in MB. We hope to see you in October.
Paul, No training wheels yet... I have a perfectly good right arm;o))
DeleteOh my! You have no luck on bicycles :( Hope you heal fast!
ReplyDeleteLaurie... you have to heal fast when you do as many silly things as I do;o))
DeleteOH NO!!!!! I am so sorry. I totally commiserate with you. But, you do what you gotta do :)Pick yourself up and dust yourself off :) You'll be healed in no time and back out there. In the meantime, let the family wait on you ;) I trust this will not spoil your winter plans...nice job doing it in-between trips :) That's my kind of planning!
ReplyDeleteWe'll miss you this weekend but will see you soon.
Give our best yo H&L and tell them we have dejinxed them;o))
DeleteOH no! Broken things are just a real bummer. I do ankles and now you do wrists. I am SO sorry. But glad to hear it will mend well. Great post and map. With only one hand it must have taken forever. Thanks for letting us all know.
ReplyDeleteMost of the post was done before I went flying!! Just had to adjust a little of it;o))
DeleteNancy...Nancy...Nancy...! So sorry you got "Nancy Arm" I just don't know what we're going to do with you. I so hope your arm is useable real soon... Like Gail said...your timing was so considerate! :-)) Hope you are all mended soon!
ReplyDeleteYep, it's all about the timing... I'm not gonna miss a good time;o))
DeleteNancy, so sorry to hear about your mishap, but glad you got patched up quickly and will hopefully mend quickly! I guess Bill will have to do the typing, and you can just dictate!! LOL
ReplyDeleteNay Marci, I can type faster with one hand then Mr. Bill with two;o))
DeleteOhhh nooo Nancy! I sooo sympathize! Boy does that bring back bad memories. If you had done it in Nebraska, I could've recommended an excellent Physical Therapist. :)
ReplyDeleteAs others have said, your timing was excellent having it occur between trips AND near your family AND where you know the doctors. We know Bill and the rest of your family will take good care of you. Feel better soon!!
Thanks guys, Terri you were the first person I thought of when they told me what was wrong!! I'll be good as new before you know it. I already know most of the physical therapist around here;o))
DeleteOh no!! Hope you heal very quickly and without any issues!!
ReplyDeleteWhen you were in Glenville, NY, you were about 40 minutes away from where we were parked for the summer. It would have been a riot to run into you somewhere. :)
Jessica... several days after we left Glenville, I saw your blog and realized we were fairly close...but too late;o((
DeleteOh nooooooo.....so sorry about your arm. But, as always, you choose to make lemonade out of lemons! Here's hoping you are back in the saddle soon
ReplyDeleteYea... but I think it is time for something stronger than lemonade;o)) I'll be back in a jiffy!!
DeleteI know it must have hurt when it happened, but you are smiling too much in the hospital bed. Must have been some good meds! Hang in there and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteSyl
Yea good meds!! However, pain is relative and this was nothing compared to my shoulder:o)) Hope all is going well with you and we'll see you soon!!
DeleteSo sorry to hear about your arm!! Enjoy those kiddos and the beautiful surroundings, and get well soon!! Knowing you and Bill, this won't slow you down too much! -- Dianne & Roger
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be bone breakage in the air this year. Our grandson has the same break playing soccer. I hope your out of the cast and back to normal real quick. I'm so sorry you're not going to be in SC this year. We'll really miss you.
ReplyDeleteRats- At least you were back at home base and planned to hang out for a while. Hope it heals quickly.
ReplyDeleteOh, no. When you least expect it...sorry to hear about the arm. It sounds like you're doing the best you can with your circumstances. Here's to quick healing!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your accident! Heal quickly and get back in the saddle! So looking forward to seeing you!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your broken wrist. At least you'll have some family around to keep you entertained while you heal.
