Nancy here: We spent two days kayaking the Silver River near Ocala, Florida. See the previous blog to read about our time on the river. If you love to see wildlife and have the chance to kayak here, it can’t be beat. There will be a lot of photos in this blog. I took over 600 photos and managed to whittle it down to these favorites!!

Water Moccasin Snake
After a little more research, I believe this is really a non-poisonous Water Snake.
A Water Moccasin has bands, not blotches around its body.

Nature is Amazing!!
Awesome pictures! Hope to return to Hillsborough one day.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
Wow! Great pictures, you took over 600???!!! Your poor shutter finger must be plumb tuckered out.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your photo choices. Nature is amazing (yes even the water moccasins).
Great pictures, thanks for sharing, we enjoyed them very much!
ReplyDeleteUmmmm...hello - when did you start working for National Geographic? Your pictures (as always!) are amazing. I absolutely love the pic of the monkeys nose-to-nose!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...absolutely beautiful! Are those monkeys about to kiss? This wildlife is almost tame.

I forgot to ask you the other day, I was wondering what lens you using. I'm using the 18-200mm, but am contemplating a longer telephoto.
ReplyDeleteThese photos were taken with a 55-200mm lens. I contemplated a higher lens, but without a tripod, you have great difficulty holding the camera steady enough. Most of the places I take photos do not lend themselves to using a tripod.
DeleteThat's actually a Yellow Crowned Night Heron, not a Black Crowned. The latter has a white chest and completely black head.
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil, I appreciate all the help I can get as I learn about birds!
DeleteFantastic photos Nancy, as always! Especially like the Anhingas (gorgeous white detailing on their wings) and the kissing monkeys.
ReplyDeleteHoly Moly! Thanks for the warning. I fast-forwarded as fast as my finger would scroll! With my eyes closed :) I have to agree with Trisha though...National Geographic huh? Beautiful photos and your days on the river in the last post looked awesome. Is Bill going to modify your wheels too? :)
ReplyDeleteWow Nancy these are amazing pictures. They are as good as any professional photographs I've seen. Such an amazing place! Glad you got to be there again and enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteYou are just a wizard with that camera :) I feel like I am seeing a travelogue of the Amazon or something :) Great!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! This is your best work yet. Way to go. I don't know about going where you were in a kayak. Guess I have lost my sense of adventure. Truly one of the best blog posts I have ever seen.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the nice compliments on the photos!! However, seeing how I only managed to get less than 10% of my 600 pictures to be blog quality, I don't think I would be able to make a living do this;o)) Oh...that's right...I'm retired and can just do this for FUN!!!! Have to love digital photography...just click, click, click and see what you have when you get home. No waiting to get them developed. No costly film and processing. Just pick the keepers and delete the rest:o)))
ReplyDeleteGreat photo's- especially nice of the wood duck. We love Silver River That was a brown water snake.
ReplyDeleteLots of great shots - I love the Wood Duck.
ReplyDeleteNancy - GREAT photos, and I love the way you presented them! I can't even think about having to use film cameras . . . I'd need a "photography" line item in my budget, and it would be HUGE! The kissing monkeys were adorable!
