Today's Travel Map

Driving Little River Gorge Road toward Sugarland Visitor Center

Turn right on Newfound Gap Road

Now, the views begin....

Just past Newfound Gap, we make a right turn to Clingman's Dome.

Just 7 miles to the Dome!!

At about 2 miles, the clouds roll in...

At about 4 miles,
we meet Mower Man and follow him to the top!!

Still cloud covered at the top;o((

Oh Boy!!  It started to clear:o))

Uh Oh... Two minutes later, the clouds roll back over;o(((

No view for us today!!!

So down we go, hoping to get below the clouds.

Guess who we met on the way down??

About halfway down, the views return:o))

We pulled in to Newfound Gap at the bottom of the drive.

The views are back AGAIN!!

BUT... not for long;o((

Needed to get down this road before it got wet and foggy.

We beat the fog, but not the rain... we pulled over and waited it out!!

It rains often, but doesn't last long .

Can't imagine driving this rig over Newfound Gap!!

What is this cyclist thinking during Summer in the Smokies???

No rain or fog down at the bottom...just beautiful views.

Townsend Wye a favorite picnic and floating spot.

Since it was still early, we drove to Cades Cove.

Entering the Loop

Well alrighty... we've got some great views!!

Yup... this is a Bear Jam!!
Of course, when you are in the back,
you don't get to see the bear;o((
 More great views!!

We got back to the campground
just before the rain got there!!!

  1. I know this hide and seek with the fog and the views very well from Shenandoah. Glad you got to see some views, your pictures are fantastic. Love your map of Cades Cove. I think I need one. What a big day you had even with the fog and the rain.

    1. We are learning;o)) Mountain Weather is a challenge!!! The rain and fog can get old, but they also make the waterfalls, streams & views extra beautiful!!!

  2. Sooo, you do do other things beside hiking, like driving! I bet your hiking boots appreciated the rest... :cD
