OOPS - A Little Mix Up - Tuesday, December 2, 2014

I will eventually get back to updating our travels, but today Bill was scheduled to have a procedure performed on his right hand.  His right pinky finger has contracted and is now beginning to make it difficult to do a few things.

There is actually a name for this condition: Dupuytren's Contracture.

"Dupuytren's (du-pwe-TRANZ) contracture is a hand deformity that usually develops slowly, over years. Dupuytren's contracture affects a layer of tissue that lies under the skin of your palm. Knots of tissue form under the skin — eventually forming a thick cord that can pull one or more of your fingers into a bent position." Mayo Clinic

Today, Bill was scheduled to get a shot into the affected area which would begin to dissolve the thick cord.  Then in two days he would return and the Doctor would manipulate the hand to begin to straighten the finger.

We arrived and were taken to one of the exam rooms.

For a change, I get to sit in the comfortable chairs :o)

It's Bill's  turn to sit on the TABLE ;o)

Sit on the table is all he got to do.

Unfortunately, there was a mix-up and his medicine was not ordered.  The medicine cost $3000 and they will not order it until you call and confirm that you will be coming.

Needless to say, Bill did that but somehow it didn't get ordered:o((

SOOOOOO...... no shot today.

The medicine was ordered today and he is rescheduled to have the shot on Thursday.

We will let you know when Bill gets shot ;o))

  1. Oh bummer. I know how much he was looking forward to this. Given how much he likes doctors and hospitals. Well just look at it as a reprieve. We've had the same thing happen when David went in for infusions. He called the day before even to make sure it was there but when he got there............nope.

  2. Don't let Bill get too comfortable! He can't get out of it that easily :)

Hope everything goes well on Thursday! Will be waiting for the update!

  3. That is a bummer, with all the modern technology that exists today, you'd think a system would be in place to prevent mistakes like this. And three grand for that medicine? Is it gold plated or something? Of course, Bill is worth every penny! :cD

  5. I have what I think is the same condition. I have had it for years. Ten years ago my doctor (hand specialist) said I could have surgery, but it would only keep the condition from advancing and would not straighten the finger. Hmmm. Maybe I need to ask the question again. Sorry that Bill had to waste a day. Very interested in the outcome.

    1. OK, so this condition must definitely be related to an A++++ type personality;o)) Also, it is a genetic condition...so you two must be related!!! Bill will also only get some movement improvement, but it will not totally straighten the finger,

    2. We probably do share a common ancestor some where. One of my dad's (also type A+) fingers also had the same condition. Dianne is doing a lot of genealogy research right now, but has not found Bill as a cousin :-). However, the Norris family did spend a few generations in the Maryland - Virginia area, not too far away.
