Our Summer Travels have started… feels real good to be moving again!!
But first, a quick catch up of the last three weeks.
After our time with the kids at Falls Lake, NC,
we headed back to the beach to check-in with my mother.
We spent the week of June 4-11 at Huntington Beach State Park, Murrells Inlet, SC.
We consider this campground our HOME campground since it is just three miles from Mom’s home. It is very close and I am able to take her shopping, take her to Doctor appointments and share some meals together. She is doing well and really is quite amazing for someone who will turn 92 this October!!! She still walks the mall each morning, does stretch band exercise classes 3 afternoons a week and does pool exercises on 2 afternoons a week. Yep, I’m glad to have those genes!!!
We did manage a bike ride on Sunday Morning to Litchfield Restaurant for breakfast. Every time we pass this restaurant the parking lot is packed!! So we decided to check it out for ourselves:o)) We were able to get there by bike without having to travel on busy highways!!
It is about 8 miles from Huntington Beach SP Campground to the restaurant.
We crossed the causeway just after sunrise and rode the back roads and bike trails.
Remember this is SUNDAY morning!!!
We now understand why it is always crowded….
Hmmm, Hmmm GOOD!!!
The real highlight of our week here was managing to get together with Paul and Marti. We always seem to just miss each other but this time, we nailed it!!! Our last night, we met them at Broadway At The Beach for dinner at Capriz Italian Feast.
Thanks Paul and Marti, we had a wonderful time catching up!!!
I believe the waitress thought we were never going to leave the table;o))
We spent the week of June 11-18 at Buck Hall Recreation Area, McClellanville, SC.
This is another place we stay often when we are visiting Mom. It is about 45 minutes south, but still within driving distance. We like it here because it is so quiet, only 14 sites. However, it can be difficult to get one of those sites as the local fisherman keep them very full. We lucked out and got site 13 facing the waterway.
We had a great week, just chilling and enjoying the campground. The highlight of our week was visiting our dear friends and former neighbors Ron and Thelma. They were our first neighbors when we moved to South Carolina back in 1982. We were neighbors for 3 years in Tega Cay, SC. We got transferred, they got transferred but then in 1995, we moved to Charleston, SC. Guess what… They moved there just before us!! They are very special people to us and our children. It is just like we have never been apart when we visit:o))
Thanks Ron and Thelma for a wonderful visit. See you in November!!
We spent the week of June 18-25 at Myrtle Beach State Park, SC
We could not get reservations at Huntington Beach SP, so we opted for Myrtle Beach SP.
What were we thinking!?!?!!!!
However, with temps in the 90s and every one of the 336 sites FULL,
it was not a fun place to hang out;o((
Note to self…
Be sure to LEAVE Coastal South Carolina BEFORE Memorial Day!!!!
Today, June 25th, we started our summer travels:o))
We left Myrtle Beach State Park and headed to Zooland Campground in Asheboro, North Carolina.
A – Myrtle Beach State Park, Myrtle Beach, SC
B – Zooland Family Campground, Asheboro, NC
We are only staying overnight at Zooland. It is not our type of campground. However, if you wanted to visit the Uwharrie National Forest or the Asheboro Zoo, it would be an OK choice. It is an easy access campground from the interstate. It is a Passport America Campground and we paid $15.75 for FHU 50amp site.
Tomorrow we will head farther north to Stony Fork Campground in Wytheville, VA.
That breakfast looks good! Glad to hear you are on the move out of the heat and humidity :-). Thanks for the screen house info. We have a friend here who is looking for one, the skeeters have found us here!
ReplyDeleteWhoopee!! On the road! Can't wait to follow along. I am very impressed with your 92 year old mother's active life. My 94 year old father does nothing but sit. I think I'd rather have your genes if I'm going to live a long time. Looks like much fun with friends went on even if you did have to stay in SC for the last time into June!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to following along on your travels!
ReplyDeleteGood for mom and good for you. Hope you find some nice cool weather.
ReplyDeleteYour mom is amazing :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like quite the menagarie at that park but the price sure is good :)
Happy travels!
Isn't it great to get back on the road to see and explore this great, beautiful country? Good idea to ride your bikes to breakfast, then work it off riding back home! It's always nice to be able to visit with friends. It seems like Paul and Marti are popping up in all kinds of places. ;-)
ReplyDeleteGlad you are rolling again. Can't wait to hear about your time at Stony Fork. So ironic that we booked the same campground and the same site without even knowing you guys were going there! Great minds think alike indeed!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to have a "home" campground, but even nicer to be rolling. Have a ball, you've got a lot to see this summer.
ReplyDeleteIt was so nice to see ya'. Hope next time we can visit longer! :c)
